With reference to my conversation with you this morning, I send you herewith a copy of the letter which I received recently from David Bosanquet, a member of Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s Hongkong staff. He escaped from the Kowloon prisoners of war camp early in April.

The account his letter gives of conditions in the camp shows them to be so rmch better than most people believe that I think his letter deserves wide publicity.

I sent a copy of it to "The Times", but they are not publishing it as it conflicts with the far grimser accounts received from their own correspondent. Presuming the latter not to be an escaped prisoner one feels that perhaps this is not the real reason.

Yours very truly,

(sgl.) E. W. Bovill.
